Marsh Retirement

In recent months, I have had conversations with my peer friends which often focused on the challenges of retirement.  It is ironic, really.  We look forward to retirement but may find it very challenging.  This painting addresses the dilemma in a whimsical and humorous way.  The two marsh crabs have been among the cattails and periwinkles and finally the path leads out into the vast and empty horizon. They (a couple??) are a bit startled it seems and pause to contemplate the negative space. So different, so scary. It doesn’t seem like retirement should be this way, does it?
